Fracking Protest Preston

WNBR Manchester

In 2015 The Ark, in Manchester which was built under the Mancunian Way, was built by the homeless and aimed to function as a 'self-serving community' for the poor as an alternative to being isolated on the potentially dangerous streets of Manchester. They had been established on the site for a number of weeks when I accidentally came across the shelter. I subsequently visited the site on a number of occasions to document some of the events before the eviction by the council and the land owners.

The Council was granted an injunction in July of 2015 to prevent homeless camps from assembling in the city centre after protesters consistently rallied for 'permanent, accommodation'. The eviction and removal of the camp commenced in October 2015.
